      Thank you both for the replies. The rev 1 was a typo on my side, it's actually rev 2. It is from a MAME 2003 / 0.78 reference set. After reading your posts, I also tried steelta1, steeltag and steeltap and none of them work, so I'll just let this one go.

      Since the Mame 078.dat from the Wiki doesn't have status entries like modern mame's listxml has, where can I lookup if a particular ROM runs with mame2003 at all? Is the Mame 078.dat mame2003's own listxml output? If not, how can I generate one?

      @mitu said in Steel Talons (rev 1) doesn't start with MAME 2003:

      For code formatting you can use http://commonmark.org/help/ as reference (linked from the Compose help link on the editor).

      Thanks, I didn't notice the Compose link until you mentioned it. It is quite tiny and grey. :)

      @ajacks504 Hello ajacks504. Yes, I know this reply is almost 3 years old. I am having the same issue and just changed to "enabled" wherever it said "disabled" under mame. The next question is I do not have the line

      input_player1_mouse_index = "0" underneath the device =" mouse line" anywhere

      Is this something I need to add? I'm sorry I just don't understand all this. I'm not very computer savvy when changing the config stuff. I don't have a trackball yet but I have a spinner right now and I cannot get it to work or be recognized when playing tron. Thank you. hopefully this msg finds you

      @jdoc said in How to get 8-Way / 4-Way joystick controls in Defender and Stargate:

      Just had to nuke and pave my system, but discovered that mame2003 changed a bit. This cheat still works, but “mame2003-cheats” has changed to “mame2003-cheat_input_ports”.

      So changing mame2003-cheat_input_ports = “disabled” to mame2003-cheat_input_ports = “enabled” will make this work again.

      Thanks for this. This may be the reason that the MS Pacman speed button stopped working a few years ago, too. I'm gonna give this a try and see if it helps there.

      EDIT: Confirmed. This fixed the issue. I posted on this forum about it ages ago and nobody had any idea what was wrong. Thanks!

      @jono Thanks for reaching out. I've had some time in the last week or so to tinker with settings. I will definitely try what you've outlined and get back to this thread. BTW- I've read that the latest update to RetroPie breaks the tank stick config. Has anyone heard this as well?

      I took @jonnykesh advice and did a fresh install to a new SD card - and everything works - pressing COIN and SELECT exits MAME2003 as expected.

      The only thing I can think of which I did differently was this time I set up the hotkey as soon as I started up the new install - I think last time I left the hotkey unassigned, and then tried to assign it later. However I'd probably messed about with retroarch.cfg too much by then.

      Thanks for the help.

      @alphafox the image uses Emulation Station but you can always Attract Mode and configure it with your hyperspin artwork. The point is that it will be based on a known, working starting point.

      @riverstorm said in Disable Retroarch joystick reset hotkey:

      retroarch-joypads/

      @dankcushions - Thanks worked perfect! When adding input_reset_axis = "+2" I was able to add it to either /opt/retropie/configs/mame-libretro/retroarch.cfg or /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver.cfg and it worked fine.

      When adding 'input_reset_btn = "nul" to /opt/retropie/configs/mame-libretro/retroarch.cfg it didn't change the default or disable it but when I modified /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver.cfg directly it worked.

      When input_reset_btn = "0" was located in the joystick config and input_reset_btn = "nul" was in the emulator config button "0" was still active.

      It looks if the setting exists in the joystick config it has to modified there as it take precedence over the emulator config but it if doesn't exist in either it can be added to either and works fine.

      @cl9yst9rr I just can't find configs/all or configs/arcade. I'm pretty new to this

      you should fill out https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first so we can better assist you. current versions of retropie should 'just work' with hi scores so you shouldn't have to change anything, but it depends on what version you're running, what emulator, what game, and so on.

      @AlexMurphy

      Terrible stuff. I actually have a copy of the shooting script that has the Wookie parts translated on the page. It doesn't improve things. Although 'The Star Wars Holiday Special' certainly holds the crown as the absolute worst, retro-gamers can seek out their own personal nightmare before Christmas with the ill-conceived 'Christmas in Pac-Land'. Theses shows are not without merit however. They're a great stand-in for ipecac if you can't make it out to your local pharmacy and you've run out of eggnog.
